HP-UX Trusted Mode Tab

Use this tab to define attributes that are specific to your HP-UX server only.

The fields in this property sheet are listed below:

Pronounceable

The valid values are as follows:

Yes

The server creates the passwords. The passwords will be composed entirely of alphabetical characters and combined to create a pronounceable word; however, this word will not be encountered in every day language. Select this option so users can have passwords that they can remember.

Default

The current server-wide password default is applied to the user.

No

The server does not create the passwords.

Characters

The valid values are as follows:

Yes

The server generates character passwords. Passwords can contain randomly selected ASCII characters constructed in such a way that they do not form commonly used names or words and they are not pronounceable.

Default

The current server-wide password default is applied to the user.

No

The server does not generate character passwords.

Letters Only

The valid values are as follows:

Yes

The server generates letter passwords. Passwords can contain only randomly selected uppercase and lowercase alphabetical characters that are constructed in such a way that they do not form commonly used names or words and they are not pronounceable.

Default

The current server-wide password default is applied to the user.

No

The server does not generate letter passwords.

User Specifies

The valid values are as follows:

Yes

The user can create his or her own password.

Default

The current server-wide password default is applied to the user.

No

The user cannot create his or her own password.

Restriction Rules

The valid values are as follows:

Yes

The password is processed by the spell command to ensure that it does not appear in a dictionary database used by the spell check. This prevents the use of common words, for example, when the server-generates pronounceable passwords.

Default

The current server-wide password default is applied to the user.

No

The password is not processed by the spell command.

Null Password

The valid values are as follows:

Yes

The user can specify a password or a NULL password. This allows anyone to access his or her account without any password.

Default

The current server-wide password default is applied to the user.

No

The user cannot specify a password or a NULL password.

Maximum Password Length

Specifies how many characters are allowed for the password. If the user types a password that contains more characters than the value, additional characters beyond the limit are ignored.

If this text box is left blank, the current server-wide password default is applied to the user.

Password Aging

Specifies that you want to enable the password aging options for this tab.

Time Between Password Changes (Days)

Specifies the number of days allowed between password changes.

If a password expires and is not changed before the Password Life Time elapses, the password is removed from the server and the login account is disabled. The account cannot be used until a new password is defined or until an administrator enables the account.

A value of zero disables the Password Life Time for the user.

Password Expiration Time

Displays a warning message that specifies how many days before a password expires. This value must be less than the Password Life Time value.

A value of zero means that no warning is given to the user.

Password Expiration Warning Time

Specifies how many days a password expires after you create it. It ensures that a new password is created before the user can log on to the server.

A value of zero disables the Password Expiration Time.

Password Life Time

Specifies the number of days that must expire after you change a password and before you can change it again. This value must be greater than the Password Expiration Time value.

A value of zero means that the user can change back to the old password immediately.

Password Aging Status

Specifies the status of the password age. You can choose from the following:

Life Time (Days)

Determines the expiration date of the account. This value is determined by adding the number of days to the current server clock date.

If a value is not specified, there is no expiration date assigned to the account.

Maximum Period of Inactivity (Days)

Specifies the maximum number of days that can expire between logins before the account is disabled.

Maximum Unsuccessful Login Tries Allowed

Specifies the number of unsuccessful login attempts that are allowed for the account before the terminal connection is disconnected.

Boot to Single User State

The valid values are as follows:

Yes

The user has the ability to access the server after booting the server from a single‑user state.

Default

The user is not able to boot the server from a single-user state.

No
